During a girls’ night out dinner, my dear friend mentioned that she was meditating daily. I asked what time of day? She said usually in the morning after her work out, but she missed it a few mornings and ended up listening right before dinner instead - she really loved this time of day!
And that makes total sense...listening to relaxation recording in the late afternoon has many benefits - here are my Top Four Reasons: 1. It’s a break between work day and home life. Our brains can only take so much before it shuts down. We’ve all had the feeling that “I just can’t do one more thing. I’m done.” At the end of a busy, hectic day, giving your brain the gift of relaxation will make the rest of your evening so much better. 2. It can lead to better digestion. Putting yourself in the parasympathetic state before a meal will allow your body to digest your food much more efficiently. 3. You’re less likely to overeat at dinner. After a relaxation recording, you are fully in your body. This focus will allow you to really enjoy your evening meal, tasting each bite of food, rather than shoveling it in while you think of all the things that went wrong that day or all the things you need to do that night. It quiets the brain chatter and allows you to be present while you eat your meal. You can focus on the food, really enjoy each bite and then focus on the conversation with dining companions. 4. You’re less likely to indulge in unhealthy, mindless snacking. Our brains are programmed to seek pleasure. If you have had no joy in your day, once you settle in at night, a quick and easy way to experience joy is to eat. Crunching on salty snacks or savoring creamy ice cream can be pure pleasure to our brains, releasing dopamine and serotonin. If you’ve satisfied your brain’s need for pleasure with a relaxation recording, releasing the feel good chemicals from a healthy and positive experience, your brain will not need the salty/sweet snacks that can lead to weight gain.
